National Sports Campus hosts National Athletics Event
Over 800 athletes from all over Ireland participated in the All-Ireland Schools and Universities Cross Country Championships which were held at the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown on Saturday 12th March.
The event, which was organised by Athletics Ireland and DIT, was the first National Athletics event to take place at the National Sports Campus.
Participants competed both as individuals and as team members. The Senior Boys winner was Shane Quinn (De La Salle Waterford), with Douglas of Cork just pipping St Malachy’s of Belfast for the team prize. Amy O’Donoghue of Villiers in Limerick was the Senior Girls winner, with Coláiste Íosagain of Dublin taking the team prize. Dublin City University (DCU) won both the Men’s and Ladies University team championship.
Liam Hennessy, President of Athletics Ireland, was delighted with the event, and remarked “it was a great bonus for our young athletes to not only have a good course to run on but also to have the changing/shower facilities of the National Aquatic Centre immediately available to them. Our thanks to all concerned”.
The event was sponsored by Aviva.
