New Swim Ireland High Performance Centre opens at the National Aquatic Centre
Monday August 31st saw the new members of the National Aquatic Centre based High Performance Centre enter the pool for their first training session of the season. The squad, created by Swim Ireland with the support of the National Aquatic Centre facility and Irish Sports Council, is a new and exciting development for High Performance swimming in Ireland with London 2012 fast approaching.
The squad consists of full time athletes who train up to 25 hours a week in the National Aquatic Centre main pool and gym, ToneZone, as well as a group of younger part time athletes who join the programme for 3 or more sessions a week on top of the great work they do in their club programmes.
The High Performance programme also has many additional support services for their athletes, including access to a physiotherapist, nutritionist, sport psychologist and strength & conditioning coach.
The squad will train year round in the National Aquatic Centre with the goal of producing athletes at an international level of performance.
The squad will be coached Paul Donovan, National Aquatic Centre High Performance Coach, Swim Ireland.
In line with the National Aquatic Centre Mission Statement, we are delighted to welcome the High Performance Squad and its coach Paul Donovan to the centre. We all look forward to a strong and fruitful relationship, which we all hope will yield excellent results at the London 2012 Olympics, and all events in between and beyond.
